“Mirror image right hand drive conversion” is a term that you may have heard bandied about by vehicle conversion companies.
But what does it actually mean?
At Victorian American Imports, it means every vehicle is as close as practicably possible to an image of the original left-hand drive configuration. And since we know that you may have heard this before, we’ve provided some photographic and video examples to demonstrate.

Remanufactured Steering Rack
Victorian American Imports uses a remanufactured original steering rack made to specification by Australian Power Steering. This enables a factory finish to be achieved and our high standards to be maintained.
New Design Exhaust Manifold
As part of a right hand drive conversion, the modification of the driver’s side exhaust manifold is required. At Victorian American Imports, we go to the trouble of recasting an entire new manifold to the same finish and standard of the original.
Drivers Side Floor Recess
As part of Victorian American Imports R&D program, the ergonomics of the driving position is considered. Positioning of the steering wheel in relation to the driver is reproduced from data gather while the vehicle is LHD. As well as steering position, the height and depth of the pedal controls is reproduced from LHD to RHD form. In order to achieve a complete mirror image, the drivers side foot well is recessed with the use of a laminate insert which is GM glued and riveted to the original floor / firewall assembly.
Threaded Bass Inserts
To ensure absolute quality and long life, where possible, threaded brass inserts are moulded into dashboard assembly components for quality and long lasting joins between dash pieces.

The Process
Victorian American Imports makes use of its fully equipped workshop to convert vehicles to right hand drive specifications completely in-house. All vehicles are built to and must meet stringent Australian Design Rules.
With 14 specialist technicians, 8 administration support staff, and a Quality Assurance system in place, you are guaranteed each and every vehicle is converted to the highest standard.
The Workshop
Using only quality components and QA work procedures, we ensure that every vehicle built, meets or exceeds our clients expectations and returns the vehicle to its original quality condition.
A Registered Automotive Workshop operating under the supervision of the federal Department of Transport, each Victorian American Imports vehicles must pass strict testing and inspections before being available to the public. Peace of mind and safety assured.
Victorian American Imports even go to the trouble of storing all removed interior components in a sealed enclosure in order to capture that “new car smell” upon the components return to the vehicle.
