Victorian American Imports was established in 1996 by owner and director John Bakker, who also owns sister company Rival Marine.
After having an American vehicle converted to right hand drive in 1995, John found the quality of conversions within Australia to be greatly lacking. John imported another vehicle and did the right hand drive conversion himself, to a much higher standard, and with this Victorian American Imports was born.
With the company’s roots in top level racing, the high level of engineering and development required has been passed on and further refined to produce a top quality, world class left to right hand drive conversion.
With the federal regulation changes in 2003 and the introduction of the Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme (RAWS), Victorian American Imports set the industry standard by becoming the first Australian company to be approved to convert American pickups and SUV’s to right hand drive.
Since then, Victorian American Imports has had a number of other firsts, including the introduction of the Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade range to the Australian market. Now, we are again the first to introduce the all new full size Hybrid SUVs – Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade.
The full range of Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet SSR, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon, Dodge Ram, Cadillac Escalade and Hummer H2′s are now available through Victorian American Imports. One of the largest importers of GM vehicles within Australia, Victorian American Imports has also expanded internationally and is now exporting Right Hand Drive Conversions to the world market.

Just a quick message to say how pleased I am with my Chevrolet Silverado and its conversion, it’s a great job. This is the 2nd Chev I have had converted by Victorian American Imports, and am impressed with the workman ship and their professional service.
I use the vehicle for work and pleasure, as being a builder it has a great capacity for carrying loads as well as with the back seat lifting up I can store lots of my tools in safety. We have a 5th wheeler and it tows it beautifully.
